HRT (hormone replacement therapy) is all the rage now as the ever increasing number of baby boomers struggle to hold on to their youth and vitality. Why HRT? Because hormones are the most powerful and self orchestrating bio-chemicals the body uses to regulate its physiology.
What can we do to prevent HRT and is there an alternative to reverse the need for hormone replacement? What about slowing down accelerated aging?
When we understand aging as a physiological state of "dis-ease", we can better understand the underlying causes that create its visible signs like hair and muscle loss, depression, fatigue, arthritis, loss of eye-sight, wrinkles, lowered immune system response, sexual dysfunction, the inability to metabolize fat, etc. These all are in a large part, both preventable and reversible with a healthy functioning endocrine system. Let's first take a look at how a conventional approach would be taken toward these signs and symptoms.
A typical HRT professional seminar would have as its agenda the following:
-Introduction to Treating Adult Hormone Deficiencies
-Female Hormone Replacement Therapy
-Andropause - Treating the Adult Male
-Treating Adult GH (growth hormone) Deficiencies
-Oxytocin and Sexual Orgasms
-Testosterone for Males & Females
-A Clinical Approach to Diagnosing and Treating Hypothyroidism
-The Importance of Hormones and the Cardiovascular System
-DHEA - Melatonin - Progesterone - Pregnenolone - Estradiol - Estriol - Testosterone - Cortisone
All of these topics are designed to get the patient on prescription hormones to ease their symptoms.
As the body ages and loses its capability to produce hormones, what can we do to help compensate for this loss especially in the area of aging and degeneration of the body? What are the major causes of accelerated aging and do we understand it from an energy perspective?
First of all one of the greatest mistakes we make in our healthcare system is looking at the body as a machine, something that relates to cause and effect rather than seeing it as a biodynamic being, something that is a manifestation of energy and biochemistry, and more specifically an imbalance or blockage of energy that accelerates aging.
Today, there are many categories of ailments, sub-ailments and symptoms. But to look at the science of analyzing imbalance, all conditions fall into ten primary systems for physical body function. Of the ten there are three primary systems that then interface with the rest of the systems. They are: (1)The energy production system. This is the system that links the body to our etheric essence and the life force that is ubiquitously all around us. When it gets blocked or congested over time as it accumulates traumas and toxins, the body hardens and ages at a much faster pace. (2)The endocrine system (including the part of the brain hooked into the hypothalamus). The real difference is that the energy system puts the action of creating energy first, whereas the endocrine system puts the action of creating the body first. (3)The central nervous system, including the five special senses: seeing, hearing, smell, feeling, and taste, (also the limbic system). After the creation of energy and the creation of the body, the circuitry of the organism must be maintained. Then we see the interface of the rest of the systems. The digestive system, respiratory system, circulatory system, immune system (thymus gland, lymphatic's, tonsils, appendix, etc.), excretory system, musculo-skeletal system (including cells and tissues, teeth, etc.), and reproductive system.
These systems cross-link organs, glands, and sub-systems and affect one another. They operate as one complete energy matrix to create the body and to create energy.
The Endocrine System and Hormones
The mysterious endocrine system and its action on the body produces a specific array of deformations, maladies, illnesses and severe diseases. It has governorship, so to speak, over the entire structure and is the second principal cause in all diseases after the energy system. It is the channel which when upset has the ability of turning man into monster, physically as well as emotionally.
Researchers looking for cures for cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and all the rest, need not look farther than the endocrine system. It contains all the answers because all other systems are merely the servants of this master system.
Hormones are the natural chemical messengers of our bodies. Secreted into our bloodstream in carefully measured amounts by the endocrine glands, these chemicals then bind to special receptors in different parts of the body and thereby control and adjust many body functions. Hormones are much less particle and more wave vibration than an enzyme. While a hormone will regulate both vibrationally and biochemically, an enzyme operates more as a catalyst for biochemical reactions.
Hormones have many jobs and activities to perform in the body. Most of their work rides in the high echelon and very close to the master control centers of the body. While the enzymes and their co-factors do marvelous feats of engineering in the body to create the structure and its life force, hormones supervise and supersede all the enzymes' functions.
Hormones are the resultant work of millions of years of genetic engineering. They have arrived at the present day as part of the complex blueprint, as an answer to the question of mortality and longevity. Hormones can be observed to behave as messengers for this genetic blueprint as well. (Hormones carry a message from the genetic blueprint to live forever; free from unwanted pain and sensation in comfortable controlled pressure and space.)
It's not so much that age is reversed by balancing the endocrine system; it's that the body is guided to reach its maximum biological potential, which is programmed in the tissue and in your cells to be 120 to 140 years old.
With hormone imbalance or deficiency we can see a link to auto-immune diseases because there's a greater prevalence with women than there is with men. So right there it tells us that there's an estrogen factor. And we know that one of the ways to reduce inflammation in the body (the precursor to all chronic states) is to introduce progesterone. Progesterone alleviates many auto-immune diseases with women because of why? It balances estrogen. And it's one of the ways that an individual, especially women, can counteract an imbalance that's created by hormones.
Other examples of hormonal regulation would be thyroid hormone which adjusts our metabolic rate, thereby affecting appetite, temperature, and even normal turnover of hair and skin.
Estrogen, secreted primarily by the ovaries, influences the menstrual cycle, fertility, pregnancy, and crucial stages in infant development.
Testosterone, secreted by the testes and the adrenal glands, influences sperm development, sexual functioning, and even behavior.
As we can see hormones are the body's regulators and the communicators. Unfortunately, there is increasing evidence that chemicals found in the environment may interfere with our bodies' complex and carefully regulated hormonal messenger system. It is important to be aware of emerging science about hormone disruption in order to be prepared to take action.
Interference with the normal hormone balance would be a very serious problem with implications for human reproduction, fetal development, neurobehavioral function, and cancer causation. Fortunately most of these are banned, though they persist in our environment. Therefore, two major questions must be answered:
-How many of the chemicals in our environment can affect hormone systems?
-And are the observed increasing trends in breast, prostate, and testicular cancer as well as the possible declining trend in sperm counts and increasing incidence of male genital abnormalities due to exposure to hormone disrupters?
Reducing Your Exposure and Avoiding Hormone Disrupters
Scientists believe that many synthetic chemicals act as endocrine disrupters, or hormone disrupters, interfering with our bodies' natural hormone systems and causing a wide array of health problems. Hormone disrupters often act by imitating our natural hormones. Our bodies are "fooled" by these toxins, which can bind to the same sites to which natural hormones bind, thereby altering, magnifying or blocking the function of the natural hormones.
One hormone often imitated by toxins is estrogen. Toxins that imitate estrogen are called xenoestrogens (like DDT and PCBs) and may be linked to high rates of breast cancer, endometriosis and other reproductive problems in women. In men we find decreased sperm counts, prostate and testicular cancer. Research shows that other health problems which are on the rise, such as thyroid disorders, diabetes and behavioral abnormalities in children, may also be linked to chemicals interfering with our hormones. What few of us realize is that 75,000 synthetic chemicals are in use today. There are over 1000 new chemicals created each year.
And according to a study by the National Academy of Sciences, there is only adequate information on toxicity for only 2% of the synthetic chemicals released into our environment.
What Chemicals May Be Involved?
Only a small number of chemicals have been conclusively shown to cause adverse effects in humans via an endocrine mechanism. These known human hormone disrupters are DES, DDT, PCBs, and dioxin. DDT is known to mimic estrogen, while its major breakdown product, DDE, interferes with androgen (testosterone) function. Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) have been found to mimic estrogen and interfere with thyroid hormone. Dioxin interferes with sex hormone function via a complex and indirect route. Other examples are:
Pesticides
Many pesticides contain chemicals known to have hormone disrupting effects and are used in lawns, gardens, food crops and on pets to control unwanted pests.
To reduce your exposure: buy food grown locally and in season, organic if possible peel non-organic fruits and vegetables avoid pesticide use; use non-toxic alternatives.
Organochlorines
Many organochlorines, or compounds which contain chlorine and carbon, do not easily breakdown in the environment and accumulate to high concentrations in the fat of humans and animals. Many organochlorines are hormone disrupters. Organochlorines often are produced as byproducts of industrial processes involving chlorine, organic matter and heat - such as bleached paper-making; burning of hazardous, municipal and medical waste; and chemical production. They are also found in pesticides, pharmaceuticals, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plastic and more.
To reduce your exposure: eat lower on the food chain, follow local fish consumption guidelines, avoid pesticides, avoid using PVC and other plastic products, choose chlorine-free products and unbleached paper products.
Plastics
Plastics may contain two chemicals considered to be hormone disrupters--bisphenol A and phthalates. Phthalates are used to soften plastics and bisphenol A is a key ingredient in certain types of hard plastics. Bisphenol A is also found in some dental sealants.
To reduce your exposure: heat food in ceramic or glass in the microwave; never in plastic, avoid plastic cling wrap or eliminate its direct contact with food. Give children natural materials (wood, cloth, etc.) to play with and chew on instead of plastic. Avoid dental materials with bisphenol A, and reduce your use of plastics in general; use glass containers, wax paper, etc.
Heavy Metals
Lead is used in glazes, lead crystal, brass plumbing fixtures, solder, food cans, lead batteries and as a stabilizer for PVC plastics. Dust from lead-based paint settles on window sills and other surfaces. Soil may be contaminated by leaded gasoline.
To reduce your exposure to lead, mercury and cadmium: wash your hands (and your children's hands) often, and always before eating remove dust with a moist rag regularly, especially on windowsills. Wash children's toys regularly, and heat cold water instead of using hot tap water for cooking. Get your soil tested for lead, especially where kids play and vegetables are grown, consult renovation experts or your local health department on proper removal of lead paint.
Mercury is used in the production of chlorine, button-type batteries, fluorescent lights, pesticides, thermometers, polyurethane and more. Most dental fillings are mercury amalgam. More than half of all cadmium is used in rechargeable batteries. It is also used as a stabilizer in plastics. Mercury and cadmium, released by fossil fuels during combustion, end up in the air, water and soil.
To reduce your exposure to lead, mercury and cadmium: follow local fish consumption guidelines, ask your dentist for porcelain, gold, or composite fillings instead of mercury amalgam. Minimize car and energy use; walk, bicycle, bus or car pool instead. Properly dispose of all dead batteries as hazardous waste. Lead, mercury and cadmium have very toxic and hormone disrupting effects.
Detergents
Nonylphenol ethoxylates (NPEs) are a class of chemicals which are hormone disrupters. They are commonly used as detergents in many industrial processes (including the production of oil, pulp and paper, synthetic and natural textiles and leather) and common household products. They are used as additives in latex paints and cosmetics, as anti-oxidants and stabilizers in some plastics and in some pesticides. Nonoxynol-9, a form of NPEs, is the active ingredient in contraceptive spermicides.
To reduce exposure: avoid specialty "super-strength" cleaners. Avoid pesticides and minimize car and energy use to reduce oil production.
The hormones of the body are the regulators and the communicators for youthful energy and rejuvenation. They drive the building blocks into the bone to make bone tissue. They drive the building blocks into the tissue to make healthy muscles and cells, and they drive nutrient into the cardiovascular system to clean up the arteries and to move all the things throughout the body.
Two formulas described below are examples of natural alternatives to HRT. A full spectrum nutrient and a homeopathic remedy can play key roles in reactivating what has been suppressed or compromised because of the accelerated degeneration illustrated above.
Homepathic Formula
It is the only product of its kind to contain a complex combination of all natural energy developed from recombinant tissue and endocrine glands in a homeopathic form specifically designed to boost and repair the immune system, endocrine system, tissue integrity and enhance the anti-aging processes of the body.
As a unique and proprietary homeopathic blend, it is designed and developed to promote the following benefits:
Improve mind & memory, lose body fat/maintain muscle, pain management, better sleep, hair, skin & nails, and a healthier sex drive. It also boosts the metabolism and plays an important role in the production of ATP (adenosine tri-phosphate); the bodies internal energy source for increased energy and vitality. It will help to unwind the accumulated traumas gathered by the physical and emotional bodies over the years.
Full Spectrum Nutrient
For nutritional fortification to the endocrine system this remedy was formulated for maximum absorption and effectiveness with branch chain amino acids combined in unique molecular hook ups that are added to a proprietary herbal blend. The proprietary blend is synergistically combined with other active ingredients which optimize glandular support and function.
This proprietary formula is uniquely designed with a specific delivery system that bypasses the body's destructive processes in the liver in order to deliver nutrient molecules for endocrine modulation and support. It supports the adrenals to manufacture DHEA without causing "adrenal burn out". In the thyroid, it supplies the necessary compliments for the production of thyroxin, T4 and T3. It also supports and stimulates the pituitary gland for the manufacturing and secretion of hGH (human Growth Hormone) as well as assisting in the regulation of the hypothalamic pituitary axis (Control center of the brain and endocrine production) to increase the secretion and production of hGH. It allows for maximum utilization of the proprietary technology that includes an RNA complex to promote hGH receptor site development by the brain for maximum bioavailability and activity.
Benefits include but not limited to: Increased energy levels and improved memory retention; Promotes fat loss, muscle gain and increases bone mass;
Improves quality of sleep and speeds up healing; Regulates hormones and improves sexual function for men and women; and reduces hot flashes and night time sweating.
What is offered throughout this article is viable solutions, as mainstream medicine and physics continues to catch on to the importance of replenishing deficiencies and understanding energy flows and their connections throughout the body. It's important to understand and appreciate how our environment dictates the expression of our genes. This allows us to prevent or be more responsible around so many of our so called familial predispositions.
These breakthroughs in biology and biophysics are fundamental to all forms of healing for they recognize that when we change our environment we send totally different messages to our cells and reprogram their expression. Taking advantage of this knowledge can slow down our need for HRT. It becomes less of a priority or not the only option known to the general population when it comes to hormonal deficiencies.
Energy storage within biological systems lies within the realm of biophysics rather than biochemistry and is just beginning to be understood. Through energy medicine we will experience and explore higher levels of physical and emotional well-being. Biophysics is a new field, having become established only within the last twenty years or so. It is not yet included in medical curricula in universities to any great extent, and is only now beginning to make its mark in the biological sciences. Small wonder, therefore, that the established medical world knows little of its existence, or the promise it holds in explaining the action of the medicines of energy, such as homeopathy, acupuncture, chiropractic, lifestyle, biodynamic foods and nutrition. These alternatives have been widely used by the pioneer medical doctors, naturopaths, acupuncturists, chiropractors, and many other health care professionals looking for safe and viable solutions.
